Why a site about prayer?

The purpose of this site is to encourage us to each go deeper in our prayer life. One way that we do that is by praying together. Another way we do that is by praying individually yet collectively on the same prayer themes. Our hope is that as we share prayers and reflect on them and pray over them at the same time in our individual lives, the Holy Spirit will speak to each of us and allow us to encourage and edify one another in prayer.

Trinity Sunday Prayer

from the Book of Common Prayer

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

  1. After reading this several times and posting it, I read today's "Utmost" (May 22), where Oswad Chambers writes:

If we will pray, regarding our own lives, “Your will be done” (Matthew 26:42), then we will be encouraged and comforted by John 17, knowing that our Father is working according to His own wisdom, accomplishing what is best. When we understand God’s purpose, we will not become small-minded and cynical. Jesus prayed nothing less for us than absolute oneness with Himself, just as He was one with the Father. Some of us are far from this oneness; yet God will not leave us alone until we are one with Him— because Jesus prayed, “…that they all may be one….”

I am struck by this same theme of unity, and realizing that we cannot get to where Chambers is calling us to go unless we first grasp in complete faith and worship the Unity of the Trinity. Jesus and Father (and Spirit) ARE one. And that is what Jesus prayed into - that we would be one with ALL of them. So as a follower of Jesus, to become more like Him is to become ONE with the Holy Trinity.

Abba, Father, bring me to a deeper understanding of unity with you. Spirit, I pray that my spirit would take its cues from you and listen and guide me to unity. Son, Jesus Christ, Messiah, let me live into your humanity by taking this prayer to heart and binding myself to the Father just as you have prayers in John 17.

  2. Praying this today, I am impacted by thoughts of grace, confession, faith, acknowledgement. The entire, whole, holy triune God keeping me steadfast because He loves me!

May my "confession" be alive in every breath I take, Lord thank you for keeping me steadfast. Amen

  3. You have given us grace to acknowledge your glory as a Triune God. You have allowed us to worship your Unity. And in doing these things, when we worship in faith, in the end, that is when we will at last "see" you in your One glory. Grant me your strength, Lord, to be steadfast in strength to worship and believe in faith. To not walk by sight but rather in the truth that I confess that is unseen - you alone are God - Father, Son, and Spirit - and you alone are worthy of all glory, honor and praise.

  4. Given grace to acknowledge the glory. To see you. Blessed be the name of the Lord! Hallelujah!!! Amen.
